The “Parent Talk” Group and + The Positive Parenting Group

If you are interested in these groups please contact our health visitors on 01725 512659 for further details.  It will enable you to meet other mothers with children of a similar age and gain support and confidence as a parent.

Antenatal Care

The doctors provide maternity care together with the midwife.  Antenatal patients are seen by the doctors during ordinary surgery times.

The midwife holds her antenatal clinics on Tuesday afternoons at the surgery.  The local maternity unit is at Salisbury District Hospital where antenatal classes are held specifically for Downton patients.

The midwife offers help on all aspects of pregnancy and postnatal care.  She conducts deliveries for women having GP maternity care.

Messages may be left at the surgery for the midwife or alternatively via Ambulance Control on 01249 651271 (open 24 hours).

Health Check for 40 to 74 year olds

This is a free overall health check provided by the NHS and you will receive a letter from the surgery inviting you to come in. This service will check if you are at higher risk of diabetes, stroke, kidney disease and heart disease.

The surgery will ask you to do a blood test prior to your Health Check appointment. After your request for a Health Check, a blood form will be left in reception for you to collect and take to Salisbury District Hospital's walk-in haematology department.

We can then book your Health Check with our Health Care Assistant and should last 20-30 minutes.
